Show Record We generally had a pole on the Wolverton boat. We carried poles on our boats to push off sand bars and off the bank or in landing to slow up. From Moab to Thompson it takes them about two hours to two and a half hours running tine, owing to the truck. The mail trucks go out in an hour and fifteen minutes. 5092 Bessie Walker testified for defendant on direct examination as follows: I am 18 years old. I made a trip in one of the small 5093 boats of the Moab Garage in July, 1926. On the way down there were seven persons in the boat. My father drove the boat. There were three other men, a girl friend of mine, my sister and myself in the boat. My sister is 14 now. The other girl was about my age. On the way back there were four os us, my father, myself, my girl friend and my sister. Coming back up stream we three girls drove about four- fifths of the way. My father drove the other fifth. We had no trouble at all either going or coming back. 5094 Albert Beach testified for defendant on direct examination as follows: I live at Moab. I am employed by the Moab Garage Company and have been in their employ for some years. I have lived at Moab about 25 years. I am 40 years old. After I started to work to earn a living I had cattle and continued largely in the cattle business until I began working for the Moab Garage Company three or four years ago. As a boy there at Moab I remember trappers who trapped on the river. There used to be an old fellow by the name of Rocky and my and Ed Turner. I know they brought in furs from the river on their trips. I have knowledge of there being rafting on the river above Moab. I cannot remember the year, but I was going up the 5096 river horseback and I saw Branson coming down the river with a lumber raft in three sections. That was the only time I saw any |
