Show Record months, I think; then they put me out to get the piling, timber and so forth to finish the race and to set the wheel on. During that period the Hite Company got its supplies and materials it used in its operations there down to Good Hope bar in light boats and rafts. When they took one of these big rafts of timber down they would load on it what supplies they had to take down, but generally they run lighter boats, row boats. I don't remember seeing any other boats. I think there were other boats, because there were people working below and above us. Mr. Chaffin was there at the time I was there. I do not remember 5140 about Mr. Bennett, but I think he was there. I was down there again later. I worked in and out of there for a long time. I took in Robert Stanton's stuff. I hauled a drill and lumber and supplies for Mr. Stanton in 1899. I took those supplies to Dandy Crossing, our river point. The last time I saw the drill was between Cape Horn and the mouth of Four- mile Canyon. They made a big barge especially to put the drill on and the supplies. They went down the river and drilled several 5141 holes. The load taken down on that barge when the drill was on it was anyhow ten tons. The drill was moved from place to place down the river on the barge. The lowest point at which I saw the drill personally was just below Four- mile Canyon, which is between five and six miles below Dandy Crossing. I did not do any handling of boats during any of the period I have been speaking of, except getting off of and on them 5142 when we were on the water. In 1900 I hauled a dredge and some other equipment and supplies for Mr. Stanton to a point just below Hanson Creek. The dredge was estimated to weigh 180 tons. I don't remember the tonnage of the supplies and tools and so forth that were taken in. There was a big crew of men working. The dredge was constructed on the river about half or three- quarters of a mile above where it was launched. The dredge and machinery and all was 5141 pulled up on barges and boats.
