Show Record In 1921 our supplies came into the Colorado River at Halls Crossing as a base. During that expedition I probably 4756 with Halls Crossing as a base. During that expedition I probably went above Halls Crossing 30 miles. I had a row boat equipped with an Evinrude motor of two horsepower. Mr. Lint was with us part of the time. On my trips up stream from Halls Crossing I probably went above Bull Frog rapids 12 or 15 times. I got over Bull Frog out and push and we did not use a line. We began using this boat about the last of August or the first of September. I was there until real late in the fall. I met the Chenoewith party and went above Halls Crossing about 30 miles to meet them. I don't think I had any supplies with me went up over Bull Frog. I made trips delivering supplies in my boat below Halls Crossing. After I got to the river with them. I went to the San Juan River for the Trimble party, which was the first urgent trip loaded with supplies. We had a very heavy load. In that boat there were three of us and our bedding, weighing better than 500 pounds, our bedding weighed probably 100 pounds, and we probably had six or 4759 seven hundred pounds of grub. With the boat thus loaded we did not have any difficult-ties, but we got an awful bad scare once. We went down what we know as Whirlpool rapid, it is just a little swift water; in the bottom there was a little whirlpool; we took on a little water there and the motor kicked us out5; that was about all. I made other round trips to points down stream from Halls Crossing. Went down to the Huff party at Rock Creek. We had on the boat as a load on that trip probably six or seven hundred pounds all 695 1816 |
