Show Record found that these bars extend practically across the river. Rocks 5410 in the river are usually visible but at times are submerged. It is possible that in getting upstream if there has been a fall off the side of a canyon occasioning some submerged rock in the river you may run on to a sand bar that was not there when you went downstream, but I have had nothing of the kind happen in my ex-perience. The Navajo, including the engine, cost five hundred I operated it four years and recall making two trips with it to Moab, on one occasion taking the Salt Lake city engineer and on the other occasion taking some sightseers on that journey. I made about twenty trips with the Navajo to the junction of the rivers, carrying down supplies and also on scouting trips and with sight- 5411 seers and hunters. Usually I had no personal interest in those trips. I left the Navajo at my reach when I quit that part of the country and it was still there the last time I saw it. I did not 5412 take the engine out of the boat. I helped organize the Utah- Nevada Copper Company, the principal stockholder in which company was Mr. Kendrick. The company was in existence for about three years, when 5413 it abandoned its charter. The principal assets of the company was the copper mine located about twenty miles below my ranch and seven or eight miles from the Green River on the west side. We took 5414 thirty or forty tons of ore out of the property. Some of the ore went to Denver, usually for experimental purposes, because we wanted to find the best method of concentration; some was left at Elgin, some in Little Valley and some opposite my ranch. Our 5415 main camp was at my ranch and part of the ore was brought in and unloaded right opposite on the west bank, where it was taken by 5416 wagon. None of the ore was taken to Elgin by team. There was a passable wagon road from Wimmer's ranch to Green River during that time. I was subpoenaed as a government witness in October. I told the Marshal that I did not feel like coming at that time. Com- |
