Show Record In riding the range in the course of my cattle business I have had occasion at times to go to Bluff and in the vicinity of Bluff and also to various points below Bluff. I saw a boat party on the river at Bluff in 1912, I 4476 think, the first time. It was about 5 miles above Bluff. There were two in the boat. They had bout a 40 gallon barrel in their 4477 boat. I just asked them where they were going. The next morning I saw them at Bluff. I saw them going from the store down to the river and I followed them down. I saw them go down the river. I had a ranch west of Bluff and I had some of my cattle there When near the river below Bluff I saw one boat on the 4478 river with two men prospecting. They were working the sand. It was about 2 miles below John's Canyon and between 5 and 6 years ago. John L. Hunt testified for defendant on direct examination as follows: I reside in Bluff, Utah, and have lived there since 1920. Before going to Bluff I lived in Fruitland, New Mexico. Prior to moving to Bluff I went down the river on one trip from Fruitland, New Mexico, to Copper Canyon, below Bluff. I had another man with me and we went all the way on the river from Fruitland to Copper Canyon. I was trapping and the other man was a placer miner. I trapped some and my pardner placer mined some. We were two months on the trip. We left Farmington on the 15th day of October, 1910. After we finished trapping we went to Kayenta, Arizona, overland. I think it was close and much easier to go back that way than to go up the river with our boat. It was not a power boat. While I was Copper Canyon I saw three different 4481 boats on the river. When I went to Bluff I went into the mercantile business and run the Coop there about 5 years, and during that time I 648 |
