Show Record available land in the immediate vicinity of the town of Green River and I personally know of other areas in that vicinity sus-ceptible of future development. In the vicinity of Woodside there is a future possibility of approximately six thousand acres, There are very extensive oil shale deposits in the Colo- 5463 rado River basin. There are several government reports giving the estimated number of barrels of oil in that oil shale section, among which are Bulletin 269 and Bulletin 691- B, a document of the U. S. Geological Survey published April 30, 1918. On page 28 of the last mentioned document the estimated amount of oil from the oil shales of northeastern Utah in the Uinta basin is given as 42,800,000,000 barrels. 5464 There are also a considerable number of beds of gilsonite in that section. I don't know of any gilsonite deposits found at any other point in the world, but I am not a specialist in that line and there may be other deposits. This material was named 5465 after Mr. San Gilson who prospected in that section and lived there for years. There are veins of coal in Grand County, Utah, north of Thompson; there is a mine at Sego, some five miles north of Thomp-son. In performing my duties as water commissioner, I spend my time in that country during the irrigation season, about seven months each year, and I have been thus employed during the past two years.
