Show Record lowest level, that is, when it is dropping off the top of the high 4234 sand bars, and working under the edges of them. You can see the channel change right in front of your eyes. While that is going on, we think we know where to go, but we cannot see far enough ahead at any one time and we may get into pockets. Braided channels are generally between the big bends where the river is curved one way and straight water between one curve and the other. In my experience, I have not been able to pick with certainty the deepest channel in one of those braided channel situations. Joseph A. Ross testified on cross examination as fol-lows: 4235 I began going on the Green River in 1889 and I made my last trip on the river in 1915 with Dr. Middleton, a pleasure trip. I got paid for that pleasure trip. It was a pleasure trip for all of us, even when we got on sand bars, all done in fun. I have told here today as near as I could recall my 4236 trips with the larger boats. I have taken dozens and dozens of trips besides those I have told about here today in smaller boats, possibly some other small power boats. Most of my trips have been under employment for compensation with the larger boats. Not so many of the trips with the smaller boats were for compensation. Most of them was for pleasure. All of my trips on the larger boats 4237 were for compensation except two trips, the one on the Black Eagle and the other on the Paddy Ross. There were some mining operations there on the east side of the river for several years. At one time I took some supplies 4238 down to those people. It must have been in 1893. I can't say that I made quite a little money out of river navigation in row boats and non- power boats. It was very little money I made out of hauling anything on the Green River in 4239 boats. I really was not hauling anything in the big boats. As to sight- seeing parties, the Undine trip was a sightseeing and hunting trip, but we went for the purpose of getting the |
