Show Record In 1926 I began work on the Colorado River at the mouth of Kane Creek. I began work in May and remained until Dec-ember, 1926. My work extended down stream to Lockhart Canyon. In the progress of that work we used the same row boat we had on the San Juan, some small out- boat motor boats, and motor boats hired from the Moab Garage. The out- board motor boats were about 4342 19 feet long and 4 or 4 1/ 2 feet across. The Moab Garage boast was 15 or 16 feet long and had a Ford motor in it. In that work we were sectionizing the unsurveyed land and setting corners and meandering the river bed. Charles F. Moore and some other engineers wore in charge of the party. In the progress of the work and in meandering the river it was necessary to go to shore at almost every bend in the river, and we were using motor boats in that work. During the time we were working there all of our supplies were brought from Moab by 4343 boat I was again on the Colorado River from May until December, 1927, with the same surveying party. We began our work at a point about a mile and a half below Moab and it extended to about 6 miles below the mouth of Indian Creek, which is about 12 miles 4344 above the junction. We used motor boats in our regular daily work, although much of the work was back from the river. Usually we would be on the river a part of the day. During that expedition our sup-plies were brought by boat from Moab. I made a number of trips from Lockhart to Moab. During the first expedition I made two trips as far as Lockhart. On my second expedition I made from 10 to 15 trips from Moab to Lockhart. 4345 I drove the boat myself on three or four of those trips, other times some other man would drive the boat. With the small boats I never encountered any difficulties in my use of those boats either in my daily use of them or on other trips I made. I am familiar with the large boat of the Moab Garage. I have seen it in trouble. I saw it stuck on a sand bar for about |
