Show Record velopments in the flotation process have made properties like the 5431 Big Indian of commercial value. That country is sparsely settled and very little has been done in the way of a systematic de-velopment of its mineral resources. Thomas Varley testified on cross examination that there is no doubt that the Big Indian is not merely a prospect but is a mine. 5432 The Big Indian mine is thirty- seven miles southwest of Moab and is almost due south of Lasal. Thomas Varley testified on redirect examination as follows: The tonnage of ore in sight to which I testified is arrived at by surface measurements and from our workings and drill holes. There would probably be a little more than a ton and a half of ore per cubic yard. Henry C. Tasker testified for defendant on direct examination as follows: 5434 I am 35 years old, live in Salt Lake, and once lived at Green River, Utah, going to that town in 1911 and leaving there in 5435 1928. In 1912 I made a boat trip to Townsite Bottom with Mr. Wol-verton. It was an eighteen or twenty foot motor boat, with a screw propeller. I made this trip for the purpose of looking the country over with the idea of running stock there, intending to make valen-tine Bottom a permanent camp and run our stock on the west side 5436 of the river. My father paid Mr. Wolverton to take me down. I did not return with Mr. Wolverton but remained down there for about two weeks, using a saddle horse with which to look over the country and then riding my horse back up to Green River. On that that trip down to Townsite Bottom we encountered no difficulties of any character in navigating and didn't get on any sand bars. Mr. Wol-verton also took me from Townsite Bottom to Fort Bottom on this oc-casion, and when we were trying to get into the bank in landing at 5437 that point, the current of the river happened to be one the west side 827 |
