Show Record go on that boat. I have hauled as high as ten passengers in it and as high as two tons. A ton or 2500 was a good load on it, a fair load. I have had as high as two tons on it. I operated the Chandler between Moab and Shafer No. 1 well and Shafer No. 2 well, Lockhart and the junction. I made one trip to the junction, I think. I went up and down the Slide in that boat. I had two passengers besides myself when I went to the junction. It was in the fall of the year, low water stage. I did not have a bit of difficulty getting up or down the Slide in that boat. I operated the Chandler in regular service about 16 months. It would take from three and a half to five hours, owing 5009 to the load, to go from Moab to Shafer No. 1 well and return. From Moab to Shafer No. 2 well and return, it would take from 7 to 8 hours, to make the round trip depending on the load and the stage of the river. It ordinarily took about 4 hours to go from Moab down to Lockhart in that boat, and 6 or 7 hours to go from Lockhart back to Moab. When I went down through the Slide to the junction it took in the neighborhood of 6 or 7 hours. It probably took me 12 hours to come back. I wasn't so familiar with the river down there and wouldn't run so fast. In operating the Punkin Seed up and down the stream with the loads that we carried, we would hit a sand bar once in a while, but it didn't bother is much with that boat. It was easy 5010 to get off. I was never held up very much on sand bars with the Punkin Seed. I do not think I was ever held up on a sand bar with that boat more than five minutes. I never had to get out and push it off. We would generally slide right off. I believe I got out once with that boat. We were delayed on the occasion about ten 5011 minutes. In operating the Black boat I would hit a sand bar once in a while. I do not think I was ever held up ever ten minutes on a sand bar with that boat. It was shallower than the others. |
