Show Record Clarence E. Baldwin testified for defendant on direct 4996 examination as follows: 4997 I live at Moab, Utah. I am 49 years old. I have lived at Moab about 18 years. I am financially interested in the Moab Garage Company. Mr. Clark, who has testified in this case, and myself are two of the principal owners. I am Vice- president. Virgil Baldwin, my brother worked for the Moab Garage Company for 4998 some time. I personally operated some of the boats and in addition I looked after all of out boats. I checked on the freight and equipment. The first boat that I personally operated regularly was the " Pumpkin Seed". It was a round- bottom boat, about 21 feet long and about 9 feet wide. The draft of the boat was 20 or 22 inches under ordinary load. It was used for hauling passengers and light freight. The boat shown in defendant's Exhibit No. 21 is a picture of the Pumpkin Seed. That boat was put in operation in the spring of 1925. Defendant's Exhibit No. 21, being a photograph of the 4999 " Punkin Seed" boat, was received in evidence. 5000 The boat had a model T Ford motor in it. The motor had been taken out of an old Ford car. It had about 22 horsepower. We would haul up to ten passengers in the Punkin Seed, and from 5001 that number down to 1. We carried as freight in the Punkin Seed, groceries for the oil camps and fishing tools used in the drilling operation and small freight of that kind that they needed at the well. I operated the boat between Moab and the Shafer No. 1 well. I also went to Lockhart with it a few trips. I personally operated the Punkin Seed on these round trips to Shafer No. 1 well and to Lockhart about three or four months. It took about four hours with that boat to go from Moab to Lockhart. It would take about 7 or 8 hours for the return journey from Lockhart to Moab. The speed depended somewhat on the amount of load. I would take |
