Show Record water and towed him behind the boat. We got into the river right 4966 above Tickaboo rapid. 4967 No supplies were brought down or up the river to any of these camps in anything else but a boat. When we had supplies we would always go or down the river in our boat to whatever point they were and get them. In making my trips on the river I have been up and down the river in all stages of the water. That includes the spring floods and the summer floods which come from heavy rains. It didn't make any difference to me the stage of the water, if we had supplies 4968 at any point and it was high water, we went and got them. We usually avoided as much high water boating as we could, but I have gone up the river in high water and in low water. In the operation of the boats, the high water made it harder, and for that reason I avoided as much high water as I could. In my experience I considered May and June the high water months. I noticed very slight changes in the channel down there 4969 from day to day when I was there continuously. By very slight I mean you might have a flood come down and bring a little sand bar in at the mouth of a canyon. Maybe when you would go down you would notice it pushed out a little ways, but it wouldn't be the main channel. I would be squeezing the channel maybe a little. The various changes in the stage of the water from day to day, did not have any effect on the river bed or the location of the sand bars that you could notice. 4970 In our operations we worked above the high water mark. We never worked below the high water mark. We purchased most of our supplies in Loa, Wayne County, Utah, some at Greenriver. I never had any supplies come down Greenriver to me by boat. Coming down stream with the Lucy B we built our raft, 4971 on the first trip, right at Hite, before we started. I did not ride the raft down. I went down in one of the boats. Before we got to camp the boats were ahead of the raft. The raft did not encounter any difficulties on the way down that I know of. |
