Show Record there at Moab. I have taken a trip in a motor boat on the Colorado River. My first trip on the Colorado River was in the spring of 1925 on the Moab Garage large boat. I went down the river from Moab to Shafer No. 1 well and returned. There were no difficulties going up or down the river on that occasion. The boat did not get stalled at any place. In the fall of the same year I made a trip to the same 4867 place in a small motor boat. My uncle, Louise Goodman, one other and myself were in the party. I had never operated a motor boat before that trip in my life. The other young lady that was with me was going to school. My uncle was going to school also. The other man was a driller at Shafer No. 1 well. As far as I am aware, no member of the party had any former experience with motor boats or with the Colorado River below Moab, except Mr. Lytell told me he 4868 had made one trip in the same boat. We went down to Shafer No. 1 well. There were only four of us in the party. Mr. Lytell piloted the boat down, except for about two miles, when I piloted it. My uncle piloted it back. We encountered no difficulties on that trip. We struck no sand bars. No member of the party had to get out of the boat at any time. I have no recollection of any impeding of the progress of the boat up or down. Mrs. Allien Russon testified on cross examination as 4869 follows: I made the first trip in the month of May, about the 7th. The first trip was on the Moab Garage power boat and it was operated by Mr. Baldwin. I went for pleasure. The same was true of the second trip. The second trip was made the first part of September, 1925. 4870 W. F. Reeder testified for defendant on direct examination as follows: I reside at Salt Lake and at Crescent, about 18 or 20 718 1839 |
