Show Record only figured from the ranch. The supplies were all brought from Greenriver, Utah, or Ploy, Utah, to my ranch either by river or team. Some of them had to come from the railroad. I figured the cost per ton mile on a 100 mile basis from my ranch to the cataracts; three tons up 4844 stream; eight or nine tons down stream, I don't remember which. I figured $ 1.50 a day each for two men. I figured two days down stream and 32 1/ 2 hours up stream, or 3 day up stream. I believe I figured the board at $ 1.00 a day each. I figured 80 gallons of gasoline for the round trip, at thirty cents a gallon. I have figures showing how I calculated that cost. In figuring the thirty- five cent a mile for the horse teams, I included six horses, one driver, 12 days' time round trip, load three tons; board for the driver and hay and grain for the horses. Twelve sacks of grain for the round trip, each weighing 100 pounds, at $ 3.000 a hundred. Drivers' wages $ 1.50 a day and board. The whole calculation is just an estimate. It is not a 4849 mere guess, I figured it. I hauled down there at Trachyte for a year anyway. In arriving at my calculation of thirty- five cents per ton mile, I took just one trip. Thomas G. Wimmer testified for defendant on re- direct examination as follows: One of the government men asked me to make the statement marked complainant's Exhibit 631. I was not subpoened by the government at that time but I was later subpoened by the government. 4850 I attened court regularly in Los Angeles under government subpoena. On top of page five of complainant's exhibit 631, I say: " I think the channel is more discernable in medium low water than it is in right high water. We are more liable in exceed-ingly high water to run across a bar in the center of the stream because of the channel ( which should be current) going to one side 714 |
