Show Record oil geology as I understood it. I never made any other trips on the river except to cross the river in a boat from the town of 4655 Greenriver. I was employed to go with the party of geologists. They 4656 secured Captain Yokey's power boat. I should judge it was 5 or 6 feet wide in the middle and flat bottom and about 24 feet long. There were eight in that party including myself. They employed me to take them down to the junction. None of the others in the party had ever been down the river before to my knowledge, and I had never been, and I had never had experience with a motor boat before. Every one took a turn at piloting the boat and I operated the en- 4657 gine. About a six- horsepower marine, single- cylinder engine. The engine was a wreck when we started out. We started in late summer or early fall when the water was low. As to difficulties encountered on that trip, we did not have any, except going down we hit a sand bar and were stuck on it four or five minutes. We had no trouble keeping in the channel. On my return journey, I believe, Andy Wimmer came with 4658 me. The geologists went up to Moab. They had a boat come from Moab down to meet us at the junction. When I left Greenriver I knew that my employment was merely to the junction and that they were to go up the river by some other arrangement. The boat that met them at the junction was a power boat a little smaller than the one I had. On my journey backup the Green River to Greenriver I did not have any difficulty in navigating the stream. I left the boat at little Valley, where I got it, which is four or five miles below 4659 Greenriver town. It was tied up there at Little Valley when we went down to get it and we left it at the same place on our way back. On the way down the party stopped and examined the country at different times. I believe we were five days going down. I believe the biggest part of the time was spent on landing and |
