Show Record The Witness: As far as I know the Deseret News was the organ of the Mormon Church at that time, and whenever any of the exploring and settlement parties went out to create a new stake, they generally wrote back letters to the Deseret News, and when they made up their records they searched the pages of the Deseret News and that is why a great many of those records have been transferred when they have been verified by the Church Historian, that is, verified as to the historical accuracy. 4308 Complainant offers in evidence Exhibit 176, being the field notes of Robert Brewster Stanton of his tow expeditions on the Colorado River. The original of that exhibit is in the New York Public Library. It is diary and field notes. 4310 Complainant offers in evidence Exhibit 627, being the diary of Almond H. Thompson. Mr. Thompson was the chief geographer of the second Powell expedition. The original of that diary is in the New York Public Library. 4311 Complainant offers in evidence Exhibit 628, being the diary of S. V. Jones. Mr. Jones was one of the topographers of the second Powell expedition. The original of that diary is in the National Department of the New York Public Library. 4312 Complainant offers in evidence Exhibit 629, being the diary of Captain F. M. Bishop. Captain Bishop was one of the topographers in the first year of the second Powell expedition down as far as lees Ferry. The original of that diary is now in the hands of the New York Public Library.
