Weight DirectorThe A'cappella Choir, which is new this year to the University's music scene, consisted of 67 vocalists who were chosen through tryouts before Dr. Newell Weight, the choir director. In the fall, the chorus presented Handel's Samson with the Utah Symphony Orchestra as part of one of the symphony's regular concerts in the Highland High auditorium. Metropolitan opera singer, Jan Pierce, was the soloist for the program. Throughout the year the choir took programs to various high schools, and they climaxed the season with a spring concert in the Pioneer Memorial Theater. A madrigal ensemble, which was also new to the University, took part on the program. Featured soloists were Val Stuart, Julia Brynson, Lynne Sanders and Merriann Allison. |
