Sub-chairmen Dennis Green, (row 2) Kathy Snow, Judy Mitchell, Diane Smurthwaite, Pat Milstead, Judy Packard, and Marilyn McKay, chairman, translated that hope into a reality by hard work. Indian ambassador B. K. Nehru keynoted the event by explaining his country's modern dimension. Succeeding speakers, including an Indian poet and University faculty members, focused attention on India's literature, religion, politics and scenic beauties. The exhibit, which contained materials from the Seattle World's Fair, featured everything from carved ivory to raw silk saris. Costumes from the 15 Indian states and American adaptions were modeled in a fashion show, one of the concluding events of "The Changing Face of India." |
