Miss Anderson portrayed Medea in Robinson Jeffers' English adaptation or Euripedes' drama. The Jeffers version was written especially for her. William Roerick portrayed Macbeth, Lillyan Chauvin acted out the famous witches sequence and Fred Forsman appeared both as the messenger and the doctor. All three cast members have been well known as Broadway, television and motion picture performers. Judith Anderson received the title of Dame from Queen Elizabeth in recognition of her work in the theater.Look Homeward Angel, the pulitzer prize winning play adapted from Thomas Wolfe's well-known novel, offered an entertaining and emotional experience to University audiences. The play revolved around the conflicting hopes and ambitions of the members of a southern boarding house family. Appearing in the role of Elizabeth Gant, the obstinate, bargaining, materialistic mother who ruled with a firm hand her husband and sons, was Broadway actress Leora Dana. Local performer, Hyde T. Clayton, portrayed the pathetic, alcholic father of the Gant family, a stone cutter by trade whose most prized possession was a beautiful and delicate stone sculptured angel. Larry Roupe portrayed Eugene Gant, the youngest son who suffered from growing pain and from a drive to escape from the confinement of his small town home and seek after an education, travel and a discovery of the world.look homeward angel241 |
