Show snow carnivalThe hopes of the sophomore class officers soared when a heavy snow fell on Salt Lake in time to rescue plans for this year's Snow Carnival. Greek groups soon invaded the Circle, heaped the new white powder into piles and fashioned works of art relating to the theme, "Mardi Gras in White." Winning first place honors in the sculpture competition was the long, spiny snow dragon created by the members of Delta Delta Delta. The winter sports events were held at the Solitude Ski Area. Pi Beta Phi and Beta Theta Pi placed first in the giant slalom ski race. In the men's division for both tubing and tobogganing, Delta Phi Kappa and Sigma Pi tied for first place. Alpha Phi captured the top award in women's tubing, and Alpha Delta Pi won first honors in tobogganing. The sweep' stakes tropies for accumulating the most points went to Alpha Delta Pi and Delta Phi Kappa.IRENE BISHOP GASPS for breath as she tries to snow shoe to the end of the track in less time than her opponents.WHILE WAITING FOR the judges to arrive, Beta Theta Pi's apply hurried last minute touches to their honky-tonk pianist which won third place. |
