Show The Utonian extends tribute to Dr. A. Ray Olpin, President of the University of Utah since 1946. Under his administration and leadership the University has made many important gains in the advancement of learning, and it stands today as one of the major institutions of higher education in the western United States. Beginning with the formal organization of the Graduate School, President Olpin has worked constantly to strengthen and enrich Utah's academic program. The traditional departments and colleges have been upgraded by the appointment of an impressive number of outstanding teachers, scholars, and research scientists. Responding to the needs of the times, several new departments and colleges have been established. In every way possible, President Olpin has endeavored to create a climate of learning in which University students, from freshmen through advanced graduate levels, can effectively cultivate their academic interests and prepare themselves for successful careers.16 |
