Show The Runnin' Redskins compiled a 12-14 season record for 1963. The Utes lost their first game of the season to the University of California 72 to 66. This was followed by another defeat by another California team, Stanford, 81 to 50. -- But when the Redskins were on their home court they began a string of victories by defeating Los Angeles State 99 to 66, the Gonzaga Bulldogs 100 to 79, Oklahoma City 63 to 61, and the South Dakota State Jackrabbits 78 to 64. mm The Utes then broke a fifteen game home court winning streak wheifgg Coach Haskin's Texas Western team defeated them 51 to 48. - The M Spartans of Michigan State fell to Utah 88 to 79. This was followed by another victory for the Utes when the Gaels of Saint Mary's were defeated 80 to 75.-» Then Denver started a four game losing streak for the Utes when they dumped a 84-68 defeat. The following defeats were to Wisconsin's Badgers 94 to 72 and to Navy 73 to 58 in the Milwaukee Classics; and then back in Utah the streak continued with a defeat to the Utah State Aggies 69 to 55. -r The Runnin' Redskins met The University of Arizona's Wildcats next and defeated them 52 to 50 in a thrilling overtime exhibition. But another Arizona team, Arizona State, toppled the Utes 80 to 65, which started another four game losing streak for the Redskins. The B.Y.U. Cougars handed the Runnin' Redskins a 71-53 loss. Colorado State scored 72 to Utah's 54 to bring defeat and the Utarfepj State five, again, held the Ute's back to a;;'ft 97-69 loss, mm The Runnin' Redskins firecH up their spirits to defeat Troy Bledsoe's Denver team 78 to 67, Wyoming 104 to 73 and the New Mexico Lobos 74 to 57. *m After this revitalizing war-path, the Redskins fell again to their previous victor, Arizona State 83 to 78. Another defeat followed to Arizona, 74 to 70. mm As the season drew to a close the Redskin's held hopes for a .500 season and played a hard game with B.Y.U. defeating them in an overtime 106 to 100. Wyoming's Cowboys were also handed an overtime defeat 92 to 90. New Mexico broke the Ute hopes for an even win-loss season when they ran over the Runnin' Redskins once more 84 to 71. |
