Show the royal gimbitThe Royal Gambit, an unusual play about the life of King Henry VIII, was presented in the Pioneer Memorial Little Theater as a Playbox production. As King Henry, Tom Carlin was the only male in the drama, and he was surrounded by six lovely wives who were portrayed by Mickey Holladay, Lynne Jenkins, Pat Fosgate, Francine Tuft, Edith Nielson and Jan Thomas. The Royal Gambit was written by a German writer, Hermann Gressieker, and premiered in Germany five years ago. George Whit's English translation of the play was brought to New York in 1958.Spring quarter brought seven performances of the comedy play, The Second Man, to the Pioneer Memorial Little Theatre. The cast was made up of four local performers, all of whom have appeared in various theatre productions in the past. Will Lucas starred in the comedy role of a "second rate" story writer who was the object of a love tug of war between two women who were played by Ann Culmore Decker and Joyce Dotsan. Zan Winn was also in the cast. The comedy was one of S. N. Behr-man's popular plays.the second man |
