A dean headed each of the University's major administrative units - college, school and division. The University had ten colleges, which included the College of Letters and Science and nine professional colleges, the Graduate School and the Graduate School of Social Work and the Extension Division. These administrative units included 66 departments. The Deans' Council met weekly, in an advisory capacity to the president, and coordinated the administrative and jurisdictional power in disciplinary matters.22 |
