Show playboxThe Playbox, like the Student Theater, was a division of the University Theater which used the Pioneer Memorial Little Theater and took advantage of student talent, but it was different in several ways. Local performers from outside the University appeared along with the student actors and the help of professional designers was employed. University professors directed and cast the productions.The Matchmaker, Thornton Wilder's romantic comedy, was one of this season's Playbox presentations. The play revolved around a rich New York merchant who hired a professional matchmaker to find him a suitable mate. After becoming in-volved in a series of humorous situations, the matchmaker sue' ceeded in finding mates for her employer's business associates, located a husband for his daughter, and in the end married him herself. Among those taking part in the play were Stanley Rus-son, Beverly Booth Roland, Howard Jensen, Michael Evans and Annette Sorensen.matchmaker |
