Show the exotic magic of arabia castsa romantic spellRevived from the tales of Aladdin, a towering genie welcomed Prom goers to the world of Arabian Knights. Brilliant streamers arched the Ballroom foyer and led the way to the rhythm provided by Lionel Hampton. Hampton spoke to the crowd, spoke to it with the vibrating tones that sprang from his mallets as they pounded the keys of his vibraphone. Hampton spoke, too, in the language of drums. In climax to his intermission rendition he stood atop a drum and his feet cried out in words of rhythm. Presentation of royalty served as another intermission highlight. Junior class president, Mike Stewart, placed the crown upon the head of the comely queen, Saundra Speers, and announced Judy Walton and Barbara Clark as her attendants. Adding to the atmosphere of the evening was a tapestry that spanned an entire wall and depicted the mood of the Arabian Knights. A gay tent which in old Ara-bian life offered a spot for repose from the desert storms served as a photography studio where dancers could secure pictorial souvenirs of the moments of the Prom.THE LIONEL HAMPTON band provides dance music as couples glide across the floor amid colorful decor depicting the "Days of Arabian Knights."THE JUNIOR PROM committee includes (front) Kathryn Cannon (row 2) Judy Sloan, Ann Rothwell, (row 3) Mike Stewart and Julie Thody.SAXAPHONIST WITH THE Hampton band entertains dancers in an intermission floorshow.139 |
