Show Page 1 of2 Cory, When demolition on the rear wing was done, there was clear evidence of an earlier winding stairway in the NE comer of the that section of the house. The upper floor framing was headered off to form an opening in the upper floor, and joints in the plaster indicated where a winding stair stringer had been located. The stair was located in the comer adjacent to the main wing stair hall, an unlikely location for a 'rear stair'. It seems most likely then that the rear wing existed alone with that stair as access to the upper floor. That's the physical evidence. I'm not sure Elizabeth's article actually states otherwise, but as 1 go back and browse her article, 1 notice other statements at odds with Carol Edison's most recent research and review with Randy Dixon. You may want to discuss it with Carol further, or have Elizabeth and Carol compare notes. 1 do feel the evidence of a stair in the rear wing was pretty conclusive. The jump to saying it was built first is certainly an assumption, but 1 think a logical one. Elizabeth Giraud wrote an article for our magazine, which 1 guess says something different (I haven't seen the article), but is the info. for the marker correct? Also, Roger said he got your zip disk with the scanned photo on it - he's still waiting for it to open! Actually, I think someone has a program in our office that can open it faster, but he wanted me to let you know. Thanks, J.
