Show 120 MR, G. A. K. MARSHALL ON COLEOPTERA [Jan. 19, Head coriaceous, with dense brown scaling, convex on vertex, forehead much depressed and sometimes with a faint central carina ; anteoculax- furrows absent. Rostrum not incised at base, as long as prothorax, thick, dilated at apex and somewhat curved. Upper surface densely squamose, with five carina?, the three central ones convex-ging towards base to form a stout erect parallel-sided tubercle, which is bifid at apex, of these latter carina? the outer ones are distinctly angrrlated above the insertion of tlxe antenna?; both pairs of latex-al sulci uniting at base, the lower pair- narrow, tlxe upper broad and shallow towards base; scx-obes very shallow, lateral; infex-ior basal furrow distinct. Antennce with tlxe scape sinuate axxd more clavate than usual, just reaching eye; tlxe two basal joints of funicle subequal, not much longer than tlxe others. Prothorax strongly transvexse, apex scarcely narrower than base, sides much ampliated, bx-oadest about middle, dorsal anterior maxgin slightly convex, ocular lobes moderate. Upper surface convex, irregularly set with small rounded tubercles, leaving a narrow central furrow containing no carina and a bx-oader smooth space on eithex- side of it; tubercles bare, with depressed dark seta?, tlxe intex-stices with dense fulvous scaling. Elytra ovate, subacuminate in $ , shoulders sloping, sides somewhat ampliated, broadest rather before middle, apices sepaxately rounded in $ only. Upper surface convex, with regular rows of strong ocellated punctux-es, visible through the scaling; intervals 1, 3, 5,and 7 elevated and with rows of smooth elongate tubercles, which are mostly contiguous so as to form distinct costa?; intervals 2, 4, axxd 6 quite plane ; apices of tubercles bare and with depressed pale seta?, tlxe intex-spaces with dense fulvous scaling. Legs with sparse fulvous scaling, except on the entire apices of femox-a which axe densely squamose; posterioi" tarsi with tlxe 3xd joixxt x-ather bx-oader than tlxe other-s, 2nd and 3rd subequal in length, 1st longer. The basal impressed line on the x-ostrum refex-red to by Fahraeus in his description is caused by tlxe junction of the lower pah- of latex-al sulci (an unusual chax-acter ixx this section) axxd is very different from that mentioned in the case of monitor, armatus, & c , which is due to the dorsal approximation of the anteocular f urrows. Tlxe entire absence of these latter furrows at once distinguishes nasittus from all the other species having a rostral tuber-cle and a short scape ; indeed in its rostral structure it is more nearly allied to tlxe long-scaped species, such as talpct, &c, which also lack the anteocular furrows. 116. fH.
