This new Mormyr, named in honour of the founder of the genus Gnathonemus, Dr. Theodore Gill, of Washington, occupies an intermediate position between tlxe species in which the anal fin originates in advance of tlxe dox-sal (G. cyprinoides L., mento Blgr., monteiri Gtlxr., &c), and those in which the x-evex-se is the case (G. ussheri Gtlxr., greshoffi Schilth.). * The dorsal was injured during life in the specimen here described. |
