Had thrs been done in the first instance, much trouble and confusion would have been saved. The type of tipj?elskircki is a young female skin (text-fig. 28, p. 214) brought to Berlin by Mr. Tippelskirch from Lake Eyassi. It is characterised by the dark forehead, olive-coloured and spotted legs, and tlxe vex-y narrow and serrated white lines dividing the spots-the latter feature being evidently due to immaturity. A somewhat older skin, bx-ought by Mr. Ramsay fx-om German East Afx-ica, was regax-ded by Dr. Matschie as closely allied, but, owing to the lowex- part of the legs being white, was not definitely assigned to this form.
