Show 5789 3791 236 Exhibit No. 95, page 148, which is the Stream Flow Record for the year 1921. That is San Juan River. By Mr. Blackmar: Q Mr. Miser, this place called " Piute Farms" has rather an attractive name. Just tell me what the appearance of the Country is. What is Piute Farms? A The wide channel of the river there is bordered on the east by open country, which is characterized by a series of gravel- floored terraces, and there are narrow valleys cutting through these terraces. On The west side of the river, there is a " bad land" country and some high cliffs. Immediately adjacent to the river at the Piute Farms, there was in 1921 a considerable area of willows and one cottonwood. There in evidence that a little tract of land, not exceeding a fraction of an acre, had once been under cultivation. Q Well, is that all of the evidence of cultivation that you saw in there in 1921? A Yes. No people were living there and no crops were planted. Q Now, you started to may something about taking the boats out of the river at 13- foot rapids. Did I understand |
