A No, that was in the winter -- yes, there was sand bars below the mouth of the San Juan and the river was low. These sand bars were not moving. There were quite a bit in the mouth of the San Juan, in the still places, there would be big bars, and on every high water moving there would be in other places the bars. Q Tell me about your trip up from Lees Ferry? A Well, that was a horse of another color. That was a hard trip. Q What kind of a boat did you go down in? A We went down in some keel bottom boats that Stanton had shipped in. They were very good boats for almost any kind of water, and we brought back the same boats, and in addition this big launch. And we had a hard trip, because Mr. Stanton had excepted that he could bring the launch up by its own power and it would help the other boats. But it was perfectly helpless.
