Show 5553 3581 Hite- D 3 Q And by what means of transportation did you go to Hite? A Well, we went the Greenriver, Utah, or Blake City, as it formerly was, on the Rio Grande Western, and its con-necting lines, from Wichita, Kansas, and from Greenriver to Hanksville; our baggage was hauled by the wagon and we rode horseback, four together, across the desert. Q Approximately how many miles from Greenriver to Hanksville? A We called it about 60 miles. Q Between Greenriver, Utah, and Hanksville, at the time you made that trip down there, were there any settlers or other persons living between Greenriver and Hanksville? A On the San Rafael, 12 or 20 miles cut, or near two place that we crossed the San Rafael, was a couple of young " Swede Boys". Q You called them what? A We called them the " Swede Boys". And down the San Rafael several miles there were two cow camps. That was all the settlers that I knew of. |
