Show 5773 220 Water Supply Paper No. 538, and has been received in evidence as Exhibit 56, do you recall stating at page 50 of that re-port: " The San Juan, in passing through the canyon, has numerous rapids, though they are small, the greatest fall of a single rapid being only 13 feet"? A That is correct. Q ( Reading) " The rapid having this fall is 11 miles by stream above the mouth of the river, and is herein called the ' 13- feet rapid'." You recall that, do you? A Yes, sir. Q When you made the statement to which I have just called your attention, that these rapids are small, the greatest one being this so- called 13- foot rapid, what stand-ard of comparison did you have in mind? A I compared the profile of the San Juan with the profile in Cataract Canyon, and any other papers that were available. Q You had seen Aztec Rapids, and any other rapids below the San Juan when you wrote this report, had you not? |
