Show 5556 Hite- D 356 6 A I cannot say positively, but I think there were about six weeks from the time they left Greenriver before they landed at Hite, Utah -- before they were unloaded there. Q Were you at Hite when it was unloaded? A Yes, sir. Q Where was this equipment set up? A Well, it was finally set up about 18 miles down the river on the Tickaboo Bar. Hite was the end of the wagon road. By The Special Master: Q How were they brought over from Greenriver? A By 20- mule team. Q Did that 20- mule team come down the Trachyte Canyon originally? A Yes, sir; but they had to be hitched over the wagon in order to pull, and there was no place straight enough for a pull of more than six or eight mules at a time; it was crooked and tortuous, and we crossed the creek, I think I am correct in saying, with our teams, 144 times in 16 miles. In fact, it was practically through the creek bed up and down, and we had to build a boat and thrash off to let the bottom of the boiler pass, and so on. |
