Show 5700 3707 150 if counsel desires to modify the actual surveys made, I would object it, because, even though this witness may have had general direction of these surveys that are already in evidence, he is not the proper witness to prove the truth of them, and if it is based upon work that was done under his direction, that is already in evidence. And if he is going to give any contrary conclusions, he is not a competent witness on that to modify testimony already offered by the Govern-ment, and it is simply a useless waste of time. I suppose the Court is entitled to have the views of an engineer of this kind with reference to questions of navigability.
