Admitted: May 9, 1957 CONTRACT This Agreement made this 28th day of August, 1920, A.D., nineteen hundred and twenty, between the United States of America, by John Barton Payne, Secretary of the Interior, pursuant to act of May 18, 1920 (Public 208, 41 Statl.,--------) and the Imperial Irrigation District of El Centro, California, hereinafter styled the "District," duly organized and existing under and by virtue of the laws of the State of California, by J. S. Nickerson, its President, its successors or assigns, WlTNESSETH, that 2. Whereas, the said act of May 18, 1920 (Public 208, 41 Stat.,--------), provides for an examination of and report on the Imperial Valley and lands adjacent thereto in the State of California covering the character of the unirrigated lands, the feasibility and cost of irrigating these lands including extensions and enlargements of the present system, the requirement for storage and the location, character and cost of said storage and the extent of the participation and of the contribution to the cost of the development by the United States and by other public or private agencies, and, 3. Whereas, section five of said act authorizes an appropriation of not to exceed $20,000 provided provision is made for the payment of at least one-half the cost of said examination and report by associations and agencies |
