Show 337 the Snake River, as it is generally known, did you not? You did not have in mind merely the North Fork as it comes out of Big Springs, or the south fork as it comes out of the lake? A I hade the Snake River in mind through as far as the Pittsburgh Bar. Q You had it in mind, did you not, as far as its con-fluence with the Columbia River. A No. The Snake River is navigated from the conflu-ence with the Columbia, as far as Pittsburgh Bar. Q Did you not have in mind that the Snake River, could not, by any stretch of the imagination, be considered navigable anywhere on the Snake River? A No, sir. Q Then, why did you not say a part of the Snake River -- if you meant only a part of the Snake River was not navigable, why did you volunteer the statement that the Snake River could not by any stretch of the imagination be considered a naviga-ble river? A Well, of course, as you go away down where it flows into the Columbia River, it comes out of a canyon -- Q Well, you are familiar with the Sacramento River, are you not? A No, sir. Q Well, you know, as a matter of common knowledge that the Sacramento River is a very much smaller river than the Colorado, do you not? 2301 |
