Show 296 stuck; do you remember what part of the report it would be? I might help you in finding it. A ( Examining exhibit) I said I stated that we had got stuck on sandbars in my report. I state on page 75 of the report that, " submerged rocks were reported to occur in the channel on which several boats had hit." Q Yes, you make mention of it. Is that the Colorado River above Moab? A No, that is on the Colorado River below Moab, Miles 34, 35, and 48.4. Q Yes; you did not report it. Now, just following that you do say-- A On page 74, I state that, " without exception, the channel depths across these bars were very shallow, though generally a depth of between 1 and 2 feet could be found to enable the boats to plow through." Now, that, in my estimation, is a statement that gives an idea of the depth of water over the bars. Q You also say on the same page that the more common channel depths at the bends between bars range between three and five feet? A The most common channel depths at the bends between bars range between three and five feet, yes, sir. Q And would you give that as your estimate, rather than just saying three feet, as I understood you to say this morning? Would you say from three to five feet? 2259 |
