Show 245 I do not understand that we have any scientific question involved in this case. I think that any of these books that are not public documents have no place on a case of this kind. Mr. Blackmar: Well, I offered it as a recognized historical book, prepared by a man who has knowledge of the river. Mr. Farnsworth: I do not think there can be any such book introduced in evidence touching the matters in issue in this case. The Special Master: Well, I think that it resembles some of the books that were offered yesterday, and I think we had better admit them temporarily, if we want to refer to them, and consider them for whatever purpose they may be admissible, if at all. I mean I am not taking each book and deciding. Now, of course, the Powell books are well recognized. Mr. Farnsworth: That is entirely different. The Special Master; And books may graduate up and down from that. I think we will just admit them conditionally, subject to being finally ruled upon when the Government closes its case. It does not seem to me that this book would come in under the historical category; it might come in for some other purpose. I shall have to distinguish it from other books.
