Between Mile 68 and the mouth of Castle Creek, which is about Mile 79, the river is much deeper than down below. The rapids are all in heavy gravel and rock boulders, with a fall of one to three or four feet. there is no longer any quiet water. Q Were these conditions the reason why you did not report on that river from the boat-- the differences and difficulties that you encountered? A Well, the upstream progress with a boat is naturally limited by the rapids that you hit there, beginning at about Sheep Creek and running upstream. Q All right. With reference to conditions of the Colorado between the mouth of the Green and Castle Creek, do the same conditions of instability obtain there as obtain on the Green River? A The same conditions of instability obtain along the Colorado River between the mouth of the Green River, and, say, Moab. Q Yes.
