Show 201 Green River, just tell us what happened down there. A We were met at the mouth of the Green River by Mr. Virgil Baldwin in the motorboat, with an assistant. We were met there on Wednesday at noon. Mr. Baldwin had left Moab, I believe, Monday morning. I had never seen the Cataract Canyon and the first day we ran down to about two miles below the junction, with the outboard motor, and camped at a point about two miles below the junction. And the next day we walked down to the first cataract, and took photographs of the first and second cataracts. Q You did not attempt to make any survey or do any navigating in the cataracts? A No, sir; we had complete surveys and profiles of the canyons. Q Where is the cataract? A Here it is ( indicating on exhibit). Q Mr. Hoyt, on Slate No. 13 of Exhibit No. 10, in the course of the river are various green and red and white marks. For the purpose of use, just tell me, please, what those various marks represent. A In order that all of the information that we think is available relative to these rivers might be shown on the large scale river survey map here, I have indicated by a red arrow the location, volume number, photograph number, of all official photographs in the files of the Geological Survey 2164 |
