The plan we had outlined was if, after examining the river between Greenriver and the mouth of the San Rafael-- if, after our examination we concluded that we could use that boat, the boat was to be launched at Greenriver and taken down then with our supplies. But after our examination, we concluded that we could not successfully get that large boat, drawing 2 1/ 2 feet of water, to the mouth of the San Rafael. So we went overland back to Greenriver-- Q Just a minute; before you describe when you went back to Greenriver, let me ask you this: why did you not have that boat brought down the Colorado from Moab to the junction, and then up to the Green River, instead of bringing it overland? A It was a question of whether they could get up the Green River at that stage of water. Q Just describe your trip back from the San Rafael to Greenriver, with respect to the kind of terrain that you crossed. A We had planned previously to have an automobile meet us at the mouth of the San Rafael on a Sunday. We waited that Sunday until about 4 o'clock in the afternoon, and noone showed up. So, in order to get back to Greenriver, to meet the company coming over with the boat, we decided to walk, as the only way to get back was by foot; and we walked overland 2140 |
