Corruption or Birth either in Thought or A chon, whether Things in Heaven, or Things in Earth ; for, verily, all Old Things muft be .dilfol~ed before the Eternal Spirit, which as a devounng ~Ire and everlafting Burning, is now entered .1nro t~e Regions of the Earth, and harh m~mfefied tt felf unto you, that thereby you mtght profir, and be had and inllrutled in the Way of Holinefs , and as an earneft of the glorious Inheritance, that never fades away, hath from tin;e to rime minillred Comfort, joy and Peace m the Holy Place, within the Veil, as you have patiently waiced, through pangs of D~ath, ro the Old Nature, and in Meeknefs and Contem, when Darknefs was over the Land, have endur'd rhe ihaking of the Earth, and terrible rending of rhe Veil. I fay, as you in any meafure have. come through thefe Things, even· fo in meafure have every one of you rafted of the Bread of Life, and hidden Manna, which within the Ark ]s laid up for all the Followers of the Lamb, through great Tribulations, which plentifully you will meet withal in the worldly Regions, both within and without. And although, my dear Friends, the Fruils of ·SoJom and. Egyp~, as they do outwardly appear in many, as Pride, Wantonnefs, Revilings, and the like, are done away; yet you will find many d41ngerous and · h~utfuJ hurtful Lulls, arifing om of rhe Nature of fpiticual Sodom wichin, which will firongly alfaulr you when the light of rhe Sun is bur a lirrle wirhdtawn, and paffing under a Cloud; through which, if ye wait patiently for the nexc A ppearance, it will ihine more Gloriou~ and Higher chan before. Yet divers ways will the Enemy of your Soul appear at fuch a dme, ro draw you afide from the Hope of the Gofpel, and Expea: ation of enjoying the Righteoufnefs and Heavenly Treafure, which therein was reveal'd, when the glorious Light in full Power ihined in the earthen Velfel, and will llrive ro make void all that you have received, as the earnelt of the purchafed Poffeffion, by prefeming before you the Hardnefs of the Way, and bringing ro mind Things you were formerly in Bondage to ; yea, and ro tell you, ye may eat, and 11ot tlye. Thefe Things, and more unutterable, will the Spirit ( whofe progrefs is to and fro in the Earth ) prefent ro your View, and feed the Carnal withal : Yet behold them all in the Lighr Eternal,· and in their moll glorious Appearance, they are afl but Dull, which is his own Mear whom you are to refill fieadfaftly iri the Powe; of the Spirit of Faith, which overcomes rhe World ; and remember how the Lord did deliver you wonderfully in your former Journies wherein you perfectly faw the naked Arm of God,s Salvation; and he remains the fame in himfelf, Yefterday, and to Day, and for Ever · altho' the Enemy, while the Cloud was over th~ ~rk ( fc:r that is his time to Work ) goeth ~bour, m the atry parr, feeking whom he may Devour, did firong~y Tempt ro prevail, as if you were in ~he Wtldernefs of Sin, r.o. lead you back again, 10 your Heans, mro fptrnual Egypt, for it is within |
