On April 1, 1937 a club in Park City was organized with eleven mem bers present. They are a very en thusiastic group and will make a fine addition to our district and to the State Federation. DIXIE - DISTRICT - EASTERN DISTRICT .. - The Beaver ladies were very en thusiastic and a meeting was called for April 15 at which time election of officers and the approving of a constitution will take place. We welcome this, our baby club, with open arms and may we help its members to catch' the spirit of BPW and go "forward together". --CLARA WOODHOUSE. - . On October 10, 1936 the Eastern District Conference was held at the Commercial Hotel in Vernal with about fifty members from the Roose velt, Duchesne, and Vernal Clubs at tending. The banquet fee took care 'The Eastern Dis of all expenses. trict was especially honored in hav ing as its guest speakers, Mrs. Maude Beeley Jacob and our State President Miss Grace Cheever. The theme of the conference was "Women's Civic Responsibility". State officers in at tendance included Miss Rhea Taylor, Corresponding Secretary and Mrs. Olive Hansen, First Vice President who was in charge of the conference. The Dixie District of the Utah Fed eration of B. P. W. Clubs will in the near future add one more club to its number. Saturday evening, April 10, a group of fourteen ladies met in Beaver City under the direction of Clara Woodhouse, District Director. A temporary organization was set up with Lydia Robinson as chairman, and Isabel Gillies as Secretary. Miss Grace Cheever, State President, was in attendance as was also Mrs. Bertha McGregor, President of the St. George Club, and Miss LaVera Mc Arthur, Editor of state bulletin, "For ward Together". - . - . - Members of the Business and Pro fessional Women's Club of the South District held their annual dis ern trict conference Saturday, October 17, 1936 in the Johnston Hotel with Mrs. Rula J. Fullenback as district direc tor in charge and Mrs. Ora J. Lewis as toastmaster. Mrs. Maude Beeley Jacob of Provo, literary critic and candidate for the Utah State Legis lature, spoke on the subject, "Wom an's Civic Responsibility", stressing that man all through the ages has been the conqueror, while woman has been the refiner. She spoke of the spiritual guidance that woman should be to man and that her great est contribution to humanity should be an understanding of the social needs of the present day youth and the ability to do something about them. Others who responded with greet ings were Miss Jetta Bunker, local President; Mrs. Olive Hansen, State Vice-President; Miss Grace Cheever, (Continued on page 28) |
