Show 14 FORWARD TOGETHER AND CONVENTION BULLETIN by National, the State Federation has practically nothing to spend toward organ:ZIng new clubs or stimulating old clubs. Your particular attention is directed to the recom mendations made by the special committee on Federation dues. Respectfully submitted, Salt Lake City, Utah, May 5, 1936. H. CLAIRE HAINES, Chairman Finance Committee. Report of Special Committee on .Federation Dues The annual dues of the Utah Federation of BPW Clubs are fifty cents per mem ber. With .approximately 500 members in the Federation, the annual dues income is, therefore, around $250.00. Although our women seem to be experts at making a few dollars do a lot of work, it is apparent that the Federation has depended in the past on a from the annual convention in order to cover its making profit expenses. It costs the State Federation a very minimum of $200.00 a year for its ordinary expenses such as stationery and postage, printing bulletins, and telephone telegraph, poster prizes, treasurer's bond, auditing fee, International Federation membership, etc. It is usually the case that officers and committee chairmen carry some of their personally and are seldom reimbursed entirely for the amounts they spend on expenses postage, for instance, or for automobile expense when running Federation errands. The National Federation allows us a sum each year for organization expenses but this allocation is limited; it is for a specific purpose and cannot be used for anything else. When we add to our ordinary running expenses the cost of sending our represen tative to National meetings. we have a deficit every year and efforts have to be made to raise additional funds. For the year 1934 1935 a profit of $89.25 was made on the State convention, but even after taking this amount into account there was a small deficit for the year. When the Finance Committee set about preparing a budget for the year 1935-1936 it was apparent that we could not possibly make $250.00 stretch over the things we had to do. It was estimated that it would cost about $175.00 to send the State Presi dent to Lake Tahoe and to Chicago, and there was an item of $35.00 covering Utah's of Miss Williams' proportion traveling expenses when she visited the State in the fl of 1935. After these items were considered there was about $40.00 left to cover all other expenses for the year! The Finance Committee hopes to cover our deficit by the us Nellie raffling painting given by Manning, and by making a profit on the convention. . However, you members of the Federation, as business women, can see that the necessity for raising additional funds each year is most unsatisfactory and is a hin drance to the success of the Federation. Because of lack of funds for traveling ex penses your State officers cannot visit the various clubs as often as they should, and they can do very little toward organizing new clubs except with funds allocated to us by National. After much serious consideration of the problem. this committee recommends that the annual State Federation dues be increased from fifty cents to one dollar. The addi tional fifty cents a year could hardly be a hardship for any member of the Federation, and the additional income would not only increase the efficiency and service of your Federation but would obviate the usual annual struggle to cover expenses.
