Melidectes gen. nov.f ex familia Meliphagidarum : rostro elongato, caput eequante, tenuiusculo, parum arcuato ; naribus linearibus, in sulco longitudinali positis: spatio altero postoculari lata et altero postrictali angusto omnino nudis : cauda longa, paulum rotundata ; tarsis modicis : alis acutis, modice elongatis. Supra fusca, alis caudaque extus olivaceo vix marginatis; interscapulio nigricante, plumis albo late terminatis : pileo nigro fascia utrinque rubra a spatio oculari nudo diviso : capitis lateribus et gula nigris: pectore albo, fascia lata nigra circumcincto : ventre albido cervino imbuto, lateraliter nigro guttata : tibiis et subalaribus ochraceo-rufescentibus : rostro griseo : pedibus plumbeis: iride nigra: long, tota 8*5, alee 4, cauda? 3*6, rostri a rictu 1*2, tarsi 1. Fern, mari similis. Hab. Atam, apud mont. Papuanos Arfak. This is a conspicuous new Meliphagine form, not very far from Ptilotis, but distinguishable by the bareness of the sides of the face * I have obtained a drawing of Meliphaga auriculata of the Leyden Museum since this paper was read, and find it to be quite different.-P.
