Above black, shaded with purplish blue and violet reflexions, the lower back dusky black ; quills black, shaded with violet and purplish blue, in the form of cross bands; tail black, the outer feathers broadly tipped with white, the centre feathers shiny violet and deep blue, the outer ones with a greenish gloss ; under surface of body yellowish white, the flanks, thighs, and under wing-and tail-coverts orange-rufous.
