(Plate XVIII. fig. 2.) Upperside (male) black ; anterior wing with the base orange-red, crossed beyond the middle by a band of light yellow, from the costal margin to near the outer margin the band is broken and crossed by the nervules, which are black ; posterior wing black, brownish on the costal margin, an orange-red streak in the cell, and six between the abdominal margin and the middle of the wing. Underside as above, with less red at the base of the anterior wing ; abdomen black, the sides spotted with yellow. Female the same as the male, with all the orange-red markings wider, and a marginal row of small white spots on the underside of the posterior wing. Exp. 3 2| inches, $ 3 inches.
