She uaed to get on her high horae eyery on in A while, & she would awing her fist back & forth in front of his faee, & be would ju.t ait there- Finely he said- " you oan allyou want to but never lay your hands on me,2Us kids used to go up & keep him coapanr quiet often, One day I was up there I said to him " GRANDPA let me cut your hair, He said "O.K. He was always A kind old sole. I was only about 12-or-l" then. ao got the sizors & clippers & went to work, he alwaye wore his hair out oyer his eara- & aide burns & beard. So r went to work, & I ever trim him up cute. I trimed all the hair off hia eara &" side burne, & I dont know what elae, he sat there so peasful, IiI he was enjoying"it. soon his wife steped in, O-B 0 YO she just went right up through the ceiling. she was sure mad, & she said You would si t there & let anyone cut your ass of & never say A word. & he just. smiled. " think I took off for home. It was'nt after that till he passed away. ,- Feb- 1909. & was burried in the Ogden City .Cem cematery. by his wife,& ro.ama ,soon moved to Idaho with her family. The night tOe:rttof* Grand Father died we were eating suopp~~ we heard Roemma coming down the path jus A screamilg. & Father jumped up & said to the boys "c •• e on" & they all went on the run. & she said Grandpa is dead, & Father sa where is he & she said, around to the back. so Father ran around there & there he was, kneeling on the edge of the old cutter wi _ ~ ~up over the dash board, Father said if he had made one strugle he would of fell off. four of my oldest brothers when they got 01 arm enough went with their Father & took up carpenter work, & went to work with their Father. they were called) Harbertson Contracto They did'nt get far away from home as they had to go by horse & buggy, They built many homes in Morgan. Father built our hoae wh they moved to South Weber. It was A rock buiiding & was A nice home at that time. It had threeb •• rooms,A good size dineing ro & ~ parlor, ~pnnt~aul way between the dinning room & the kitchen,.Then a hawl room going down the basement, & going up st Up stares was large bed room where the boys slept. A nice big yard, with scrubs & shade trees & lawn. There was A good size po of water just north of the house where us kids spent lots of play time, there were lots of frogs in the pond, & at night the fro would sing us to sleep; There was A big canal just A little west of our home, which was cemented later. Father & the boys used go swiming in it. Father used to put us smaller ones on his back' swim with us. we thou~ht that was great. When we got a little older, I asked Mother if us sirls could go in the canal. & she said2 Vno, so after a while we desided to try it any way, So my brother Joe's wife (NELL) And Ada & my brother Willes wife's eist~r ~dna & my self,went uown there, Nell sit on , the bank & they let Bdna & I down in the canal with a rope. the water was deep & swift, & slick on the bottom. we had not hardly got in when ~dna got down the stream a little further than me, when my feet went out from under me & I went under, the wa was so swift that ~dna could hardly get back to me, I went down, & come up, & down I went again & was just waa going down the t! when ~dna reached me. Ada & Nell was screamins on the bank, & throad Edna the rope & they pulled me out just in time •• we desid~, right there that it was much better to listen to our dear Mother. Jo we didBnt try that again. Mother worked hard taking care of her big family,& helpingon the farm, we always had a Big garden,&: in the spring it was so go. to have all the young potatoes, some about the size of a walnut,& larger, young peas &: corh & every thing else to eat when they I young & fresh. We also had all the fresh fruit of all kind to cat •• Mother never had A doctor when having her babies, till the one. she always had A mid wife, (Mrs Christen Fernelious) she used to try to help with the washing sitting up in bed. They only had a old washer th~.t you had to turn by hand, it did'nt do much cleaning, so they had to scrub part of ihe cloths on old wash board. Jhen she . would\the ironing they had to heat the irons on the old iron cook stove. ~~en my sister Lizzie got older she worked hard heliping Nother,take care of the little ones, & cooking fOj them all. alao help!nl on the farm. ~hen she got about IB-or19- some times she would go work out for other people & she only go. ,.00 per week. then sh, soon gut marrIed, To Archie T. Hill. They also lived on A farm, & had to work hard. Father & t~e boys were gone most of the week building homes &: ect. & they would only come home on week ends, if they were far ~~ One ~at, nIght when we were expecting them home, my sister Ada & J run down to the canal to meet them they stoped & picked us ,~ I . sit on ~athers lap in the front seat & Ada sat on Parleys lap in the ba~k seat, we just got seated ~ one of the horses look~d around & seen me sitting on fathers lap & it got scared & Rway they went, &: Joe coulu't hold them, they were just young horaes • ~~n~ of wild, they belonged to the boys. ,Parley held Ada in his arms & jumped out with her,. but Father could not hanl, me 80 go~ & MO~h;~r::i~~ ~h~:eA O~i~~\~~:nl:t w;~~o~v;~d~~o!ef;; 1'~!d~~rse~t::ve~ ~~oped tidll they got up to the barn. After A while Fa~her , , • r\, • ey move in ,in 1922. & Uved there till 1~25. When Fath got got SIck & passed away In about A week on 19-April-1925. Mother remained in her hallie there till L952.
